The CQPA believes it is possible to carry out its activities in an ecologically sustainable manner. The Authority demonstrates an ongoing commitment to effective environmental management and protection of the estuarine ecosystems of Gladstone Harbour through the continual development and implementation of its Integrated Environmental Management System.

Environmental Monitoring is an essential component of the Authority's environmental management system and includes regular monitoring of water quality, dust, mangroves, seagrasses, benthic (bottom-dwelling) fauna and introduced marine pests.

The Authority provides the National Pollutant Inventory with an annual update on reportable emissions.

The CQPA is a local leader in Restocking Programmes undertaking several mangrove restoration projects, direct seeding of native trees and restocking of fish in the Awoonga Dam and upper reaches of the Boyne River in partnership with the Gladstone Area Water Board.
